Black ABCs
OverviewThe original Black ABCs were created in 1970 and used as a learning aid. They were designed to allow black children to see themselves and things from their community in academia. It helped to foster black pride and self-esteem. I decided to recreate them using black TV shows, soul food, and other cultural items that reminded me of my family.
Style Guide
Visually, I wanted the cards to have a similar 70s vibe. I chose to utilize a color palette that felt very groovy, colorful, and fun. I used the typeface Please VF because it’s very chunky and whimsical, and it felt very 70s to me.
